Haunted & History Tours

June 10 thru Oct 31 7:00PM - Every Night

Starting Point: Sturgis Library 3090 Main Street (6A) Barnstable, MA

Are you looking for something out of the ordinary to fill your evenings? Join us as we walk the historic and haunted “Old Kings Highway” in Barnstable Village.

... The date is 1645 Reverend John Lothrop, founder of Barnstable has a home built on “Old Kings Highway” and is now the Sturgis Library. This structure is to be the oldest building to be used as a library in the United States. There is a resident who has not left this historic building still walking the rows of bookshelves among you.

This is just the starting point of the tour. As the tour continues you will hear stories of the conflict between the Loyalists and the American Whigs (Patriots) and how England had a stronghold on this small quaint town. There are over fifteen stops on the tour and eleven have ghost stories. You will visit Cobb’s Hill Cemetery where you may bump into the “Dark Man”. You will visit such places and the “Old Jail” built in 1690’s by the order of Massachusetts Bay Colony Courts, who still today has a ghostly resident caretaker. You will pass by the Crocker Tavern, the meeting place of the Whigs. As the night sets in, we will have you in front of Cape Cod’s most haunted building, “The House of Eleven Ghosts”. These are just a few of the stops on your visit to haunted Barnstable Village.

The Choir of Trinity College Concert to benefit the Overnights of Hospitality

Wednesday, July 9th at 7 PM
The Choir of Trinity College from the University of Melbourne will be performing at the Federated Church of Hyannis (320 Main Street) on Wednesday, July 9 th at 7 PM. A free will offering will benefit the Housing Support Services of the Overnights of Hospitality. The concert is called Continental Shift and presents six centuries of beautiful music including: Allegri Miserere and other Renaissance works, contemporary works by Chilcott, Flower and Ives, motets by Bach, Biebl, Howells, Mendelssohn and Vaughn Williams.

The Housing Support Services of the Overnights of Hospitality has helped to put over 100 formerly homeless people in to permanent housing over the past four years. As a ministry of the Cape Cod Council of Churches, case managers work with participants to provide guidance, assistance, support and friendship as they move from homelessness to independence.  They continue to keep in touch with clients through home visits, phone calls and office visits, helping them remain in housing.  This case management has proved to be a critical link in preventing a return to homelessness.

For more information about the concert or the Overnights of Hospitality Housing Support services, please call the Cape Cod Council of Churches at508-775-5073 or email Cindy Caswell at capecodcouncil@verizon.net

What the Butler Saw

June 19 - July 12
8:00 PM (Tuesdays – Saturdays)
3:30 PM matinee (Saturday, June 21 & July 12)

2007 IRNE Award Winner David Wheeler directs Joe Orton’s hilarious take on psychology and the therapy biz. Originally produced in 1969, this “classic” farce is as outrageously funny today as it was then. A lecherous psychiatrist, his naïve secretary, his nymphomaniac wife, her reluctant bellhop, and a clueless inspector lead each other on a merry chase of mistaken identities, disguises, mayhem and madness.
